Market Today

Today infusion pumps and manual injections are used in both in-patient and home settings for delivery of medications that are not able to be absorbed orally. For example, people with diabetes use insulin pumps to more successfully manage their disease with fewer injections and better control of insulin levels, representing a greater than $1 billion U.S. market. Other drugs that are currently transfused or injected include biologic medications, hormones, fertility drugs, anti-coagulation drugs and pain medication. Traditional methods of delivering these drugs can be expensive, complicated, inconvenient and uncomfortable because they require significant nurse time and complex capital equipment; are prone to infection and medical errors; and require multiple needle sticks.
